In accordance with President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s pledge, the allowance for Hafiz (those who have memorized the Quran) has been increased to MVR 4,000. The Islamic Ministry stated that the allowance for Hafiz has been increased from July onwards, in line with the President’s promise, as an encouragement for memorizing the Holy Quran. They mentioned that the allowance, which was previously MVR 2,000, has been raised to MVR 4,000, and this increased amount has been deposited to the Hafiz today.
The decision to double the allowance for Hafiz, as per President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s pledge, was made by the Cabinet in June. The government emphasizes that training Hafiz and increasing the importance given to them is crucial in enhancing the love for the Holy Quran. Appreciating the Quran memorizers in the Maldives is already a practice. However, President Muizzu’s goal is to further appreciate the Hafiz and foster love for Islam in the hearts of Maldivians even more than before.
