
The Ministry of Finance has stated that the government took nine loans last year, totaling 5.2 billion rufiyaa. According to statistics released by the Ministry of Finance, the government took a loan of 2.3 billion rufiyaa from the Saudi Fund for Development last year. This was the largest loan taken by the government last year. In addition to that loan, a 1.2 billion rufiyaa loan was taken from China’s Exim Bank, while a 617 million rufiyaa loan was taken from the Islamic Development Bank (IDB). The loan from China’s Exim Bank was taken to refinance and upgrade the VIA development project. The loan from IDB was taken to finance small and medium enterprises.
According to the information released by the Ministry of Finance, the government also took a 771 million rufiyaa loan and a 1.5 billion rufiyaa loan from the Saudi Fund for Development last year. Additionally, a 1.2 billion rufiyaa loan was taken from China Exim Bank. Furthermore, loans of 154 million rufiyaa and 463 million rufiyaa were taken from the Islamic Development Bank.
A loan of 154 million rufiyaa was taken from the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development, while a 231 million rufiyaa loan was taken from the Asian Infrastructure Development Bank. The government also took a 62 million rufiyaa loan from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and a 617 million rufiyaa loan from the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development.
