Following the National Futsal Team’s victory in the SAFF Futsal Championship, Minister of Sports Abdulla Rafiu stated that the government remains fully committed to supporting national teams in sustaining their achievements. The Minister highlighted that the government will prioritize providing essential resources for athletes, facilitating domestic and international training opportunities, and securing the expertise of high-level foreign coaches.
Reflecting on past experiences in football, where maintaining success proved challenging over time, the Minister emphasized the importance of a structured approach to ensure this victory marks the beginning of sustained excellence. Furthermore, he noted that discussions are underway with the FAM, under the President’s initiative, to address the lack of indoor court facilities for the futsal team. In recognition of their achievement, the government has also decided to award a one-million-rupee bonus to the winning teams.
