The Ministry of Sports has begun work to resolve the debt issues of government companies owed to the Football Association of Maldives (FAM). Speaking at FAM’s Extraordinary Congress held last night at Meeruma Hotel, Minister Abdullah Rafiu said, “God willing, this matter will be resolved in a very favorable manner.”

“The Ministry is currently in discussions with government companies regarding the repayment of debt owed by FAM to these companies,” Minister Rafiu said.

However, the Minister did not specify the amount of money involved or how many companies FAM owes. Nevertheless, according to reliable sources, this amount is close to 30 million. Minister Rafiu stated that the Ministry has been providing extensive assistance to ensure FAM’s affairs are conducted properly. In this regard, he mentioned that they have provided office space at the Galolhu Stadium for FAM’s operations and have also arranged for ministry staff to be available to assist in organizing tournaments.

Furthermore, he stated that they have responded positively to every request made by FAM so far for national teams to participate in overseas tournaments and matches. The Maldives’ football governing body, FAM, is currently under normalization by FIFA due to financial and administrative collapse.
