Coach Ruben Amorim has said that he went to Manchester United’s matches last season knowing they would lose. The coach, who is preparing for the new English Premier League season, said that during the eight months he spent at United, what saddened him the most was having to play matches knowing the team’s condition. “I leave home knowing how things will go. Knowing we’ll lose. Or knowing we can’t compete well. This is the reality. These are very difficult days. Even though I try to go home and spend a happy moment with my family, I can’t do that because of the team’s situation. I’m always thinking about the team’s issues,” Amorim said.

He said that when United slipped out of the top 12 last season, he knew the season couldn’t be saved, and in the end, he worked towards achieving two things.
“I tried to go to the very bottom and avoid relegation. I tried to survive that. Because I knew the team’s situation couldn’t be changed. Then I tried to win the Europa League in whatever situation. But we went to the final and that didn’t happen either,” Amorim said. He said that taking over the team in the middle of United’s worst season in history, and with results not improving, he began to consider stepping away from coaching at some point.

“But I didn’t want that to happen. It would have been very easy for me to leave the team. But I thought differently,” Amorim said. He also said that he began to exclude some players from the team and give opportunities to some young players to change the team’s situation. And that those changes were good changes. United hasn’t been able to find enough players to prepare for the upcoming season. However, Amorim said that United will be better in the coming season than before.
