The Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO) has officially inaugurated its new fish processing facility, which was established in Fuvahmulah City. The facility was opened by State Minister Mohamed Muttalib from the Ministry of Fisheries and Ocean Resources, during a special ceremony held in Fuvahmulah. The event saw the participation of key figures including MIFCO’s CEO Brigadier General (Rtd) Farhath Shaheer, Strategic Consultant Aathif Shakeer, Member of Parliament for Fuvahmulah South Constituency Ibrahim Husaain, Fuvahmulah City Mayor Ismail Rafeeq, Council Members, and local fishermen from Fuvahmulah.

This state-of-the-art facility has been designed to operate under the highest health and safety standards and has already received approval from the Maldives Food and Drug Authority (MFDA). MIFCO has expressed that this facility will empower the community of Fuvahmulah to safely process and package fish, thereby ensuring reliable products and creating significant opportunities for fishermen to maximize profits from their catch.

This includes significant investments, supported by the government and multilateral development finance, to increase its capacity for fish purchasing and preservation.
