Founding Member of Club Eagles Passes Away

Hassan Ali, the founding member of Club Eagles and father to several prominent figures in Maldivian football, has passed away.

According to reports, Hassan Ali passed away last night while receiving treatment at the hospital. He was admitted last Thursday due to low blood pressure.

His funeral prayer (Janazah) will be held today at the Aa-Sahara Mosque in Malé, following the Asr prayer.

As the primary founder of Club Eagles, Hassan Ali played a pivotal role in providing opportunities for numerous aspiring young footballers. He was instrumental in the club’s inception, stepping forward to register Club Eagles on behalf of a group of young enthusiasts who were unable to do so themselves due to age restrictions at the time.

Hassan Ali was the father of Ali Suzain, a renowned coach who has led the national team and several first-division clubs, and Mohamed Nazeeh, the current head coach of United Victory. His other children include Ibrahim Sinaz (Sina), a talented defender who played for Victory Sports Club, New Radiant, and VB Addu FC, as well as Ahmed Riyaz (Ghana), who served as a goalkeeper trainer for Victory Sports Club for 30 years.

Among his children, Ali Suzain is perhaps the most distinguished figure in Maldivian football. Suzain enjoyed a successful playing career with Victory and Valencia and has achieved significant milestones as a coach with Victory and Maziya. Regarded as the most successful local coach, Suzain also led the Maldives national team during the 2021 SAFF Championship held in Malé.
