The foundation stone for the Mativaree Waste Management Center has been laid. The ceremony was graced by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu. Establishing environmentally friendly waste management systems in all islands of the Maldives is a key policy of the government. As part of this initiative, during the President’s ongoing trip to Alif Alif Atoll, the foundation stone for the Waste Management Center in Mativaree has been laid. The foundation stone was laid by the Minister of Tourism and Environment, Tariq Ibrahim, and the CEO of MTCC, Ahmed Saudee, at a ceremony held for this purpose. The ceremony was attended by the constituency member Hassan Zareer, along with government ministers and members of the Mativaree Council.

The construction of the Mativaree Waste Management Center has been contracted to MTCC for 1.06 million rufiyaa, with a completion timeline of 6 months. The project includes renovating the waste management facility, constructing a storage area for hazardous waste, building a warehouse, landscaping work, and repairing the existing boundary fence. Waste Management Centers are being developed, equipped with necessary resources, and handed over to island councils with operational arrangements in place. Mativaree, with a population of 1,080, is an island where tourism has expanded. Therefore, establishing a safe waste management system has been a major desire of the island council and its residents.

As part of the President’s ongoing series of visits to the atolls, he is scheduled to visit all islands in Alif Alif Atoll.
