The foundation for the Fitness and Recreation Center, which the government is establishing in HDh. Nellaidhoo, has been laid. The foundation was laid by Minister of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment Abdullah Rafiu, Managing Director of Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed, and the President of Nellaidhoo Council, Mohamed Aleef, during President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s current tour to Haa Dhaalu Atoll. Senior government officials and council members also participated in this ceremony.

This is a project being carried out in collaboration with MACL. Speaking to PSM News about this, the President of Nellaidhoo Council, Mohamed Aleef, said that they estimate the work to be completed within this year. He stated that as Nellaidhoo is an island with a relatively large population, such a center is very important for the island. Aleef also mentioned that once the center is completed and put to use, it will allow youth to utilize their free time productively. Furthermore, he revealed that the center is also linked to the well-being of the island’s residents. This is because fitness activities can be conducted at the Fitness and Recreation Center, and it’s being built in a way that can be used by people of all ages, according to the Council President.

“A large number of people live on this island. Therefore, this center will be especially beneficial for the youth. It will turn their free time into productive time. Moreover, this is a place for all age groups. Exercise programs will also be conducted here,” said Aleef. President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has delivered many pieces of good news to the island in the sports sector. In this regard, he has stated that lights will be installed on the island’s football field before the end of this year, and the development of a futsal ground on the island will commence either by the end of this year or early next year.
