The foundation was laid by the Minister of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment, Abdullah Rafiu, during President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s ongoing trip to Noonu Atoll. President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu and senior government officials accompanying him on the trip to Noonu Atoll participated in the ceremony.
In a special interview with “PSM News” regarding this project in N. Manadhoo, Minister of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment Abdullah Rafiu said that this project is part of the work being done to build a healthy Maldives in line with President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s pledge. The Minister also stated that such centers will be established throughout the Maldives this year and in the coming year 2026, with the aim of making Maldivian citizens a community that loves and is accustomed to wellness.
The Minister revealed that as Fitness and Recreation Centers are established in all parts of the Maldives before the end of next year, efforts are also being made to provide other necessary resources to further develop sports in all parts of the country. This includes the renovation of futsal grounds, lighting, and many other sports-related improvements, which the Minister assured would be carried out. Additionally, the Minister shared information with PSM News about numerous sports-related plans for N. Manadhoo.
“There are many projects scheduled to proceed in Manadhoo this year. Among them is the Fitness and Recreation Center, whose foundation will be laid today. Along with that, the practical work on the outdoor gym will begin. Then, as Manadhoo is a fairly large island, the work on a multi-sports complex with the aid of the Indian government will also begin, God willing, within this year,” the Minister said.
Establishing fitness centers in all parts of the Maldives within the next two years is one of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s pledges. The construction work for the Manadhoo Fitness and Recreation Center has been awarded to the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC).
