Super United Sports (SUS) avoided relegation in 2022 thanks to the hard work of the players and coach Ismail Mahfooz (Inma). However, the club has now gone bankrupt and has informed FAM of its decision to withdraw from the first division. This decision has resulted in the loss of SUS’s strong academy setup. The academy’s coaches and players have now moved to Odi Sports, a newcomer to the first division. Academy officials said they moved to Odi without wasting even a week because they wouldn’t have access to FAM’s grounds if they weren’t affiliated with a first division club.
Although there are allegations that SUS withdrew from the first division under a deal with New Radiant, SUS Vice President Afraad and New’s Chairman Mubeen deny this. The league rules state that if a spot becomes vacant, the best team from the regional league should be given the opportunity. In this situation, information suggests that New had a greater advantage when comparing results between Tent and New, who lost in the second division semi-finals. New is now preparing for the upcoming season.
Some supporters have criticized the move, saying that making a deal with SUS to ascend to the first division is a shortcut, especially after New Radiant was previously unfairly suspended and relegated to the second division. While there are allegations of misappropriation of funds received by SUS from the government and through FAM, it is also alleged that money from the Football Arena project was given to a company associated with SUS Vice President Afraad. In light of all these issues, officials say that FAM should thoroughly investigate the SUS case, conduct a financial audit of the club, and seriously examine the reasons for withdrawing from the first division. FAM says they will take action according to the regulations.
