Following the Spanish Super Cup final, Barcelona’s title-winning coach Hansi Flick and Real Madrid’s manager Xabi Alonso both shared their reflections on the match.
Securing his second consecutive trophy under his leadership, Flick noted that defeating Real Madrid in a major final makes the achievement even more significant and rewarding.
“I am extremely satisfied. Winning a Clásico final is truly special. Seeing the joy and celebration among the players was wonderful. I believe we were the superior side throughout the match, staying true to our identity and working exceptionally well as a unit,” Flick remarked.
He also commended Raphinha, who scored both the opening and the winning goals, highlighting the player’s mental resilience and undeniable talent displayed on the pitch.
On the other side, Real Madrid boss Xabi Alonso emphasized that his team’s performance offered plenty of encouragement despite the loss.
“We have faced an unexpected number of injuries this season. While the result did not go our way today, there were many positive aspects to our play. This gives us great confidence for our upcoming fixtures, and we will certainly build on these points,” Alonso stated.
VinÃcius Júnior stood out as the top performer during a frantic first half that saw three goals scored within just four minutes. Alonso explained that VinÃcius was substituted in the final five minutes at the player’s own request. He further noted that the strategic plan was to introduce Kylian Mbappé before Barcelona’s third goal, but the substitution was unfortunately delayed by a minute.
“He played the role we intended for him once he came on, but it was after they had already secured their third goal. Despite the defeat, there are many strengths we can draw from. Real Madrid will be a different force once we have our full squad available,” Alonso concluded.
