An issue has surfaced regarding the allocation of flats in the Gedhoruveri (Homeowner) Scheme, where flats were assigned through a lottery to those who scored 75 points, while those who scored above 76 points were not allocated flats. According to an announcement released today by the Housing Ministry, they are working to resolve the issue of some individuals who scored above 76 points not being included in the lottery. Although the signing of agreements has begun, matters related to flats for those who scored 75 points will proceed only after the allocation of flats to those who scored above 76 points is completed.
Therefore, the signing of agreements with some individuals who scored 75 points has been put on hold. The Housing Ministry’s announcement today stated that according to the scheme’s conditions, three-bedroom flats in the first round would be allocated to those who scored above 76 points. It was also announced that after allocating flats to these individuals, the remaining flats would be distributed to those who scored 75 points through a lottery.
In the first round, two-bedroom flats were decided to be given to those who scored above 73 points. Despite this announcement, the Housing Ministry said that when the lottery was conducted, some eligible individuals who should have received flats without participating in the lottery were omitted. The Ministry stated that on November 16, 2023, when the lottery was held, flats were allocated to those who scored 75 points and above before assigning flats to those who scored above 76 points.
As it was determined that those who scored above 76 points in this scheme would receive flats, the Ministry said they are currently working on allocating flats to these individuals first. However, the Ministry did not specify how many such individuals there are. “After allocating flats to these individuals and completing that phase, we will proceed with the work related to flats for those who scored 75 points,” the Ministry’s announcement stated. The permanent list for these flats being constructed in Hulhumalé was gazetted by former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s government on November 4, 2023. The current government has also decided to give flats to all eligible individuals on that list who do not have any issues.
After signing the agreement, keys are handed over upon payment of the required security deposit. This is 15,000 rufiyaa for two-bedroom apartments and 25,000 rufiyaa for three-bedroom apartments.
