
Statistics from the Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO) show that 10.4 million rufiyaa was disbursed to fishermen last week. This is a 55% increase compared to the amount disbursed to fishermen the previous week.
According to statistics released by MIFCO, the state fishing company, 234 boats sold fish to MIFCO last week. This is a 41.8% increase compared to the number of boats that sold fish to MIFCO the previous week. In the previous week, 165 boats had sold fish to MIFCO.
As fishing improved and the number of boats selling fish to MIFCO increased last week, the amount of money disbursed to fishermen also increased. A total of 10,390,914 rufiyaa was disbursed to fishermen last week. This is a 55% increase compared to the amount disbursed to fishermen the previous week, which was 6,701,624 rufiyaa.

According to MIFCO’s statistics, the highest amount of money was disbursed to fishermen on Thursday last week. On that day, 45 boats sold fish to MIFCO, and a total of 2,791,221 rufiyaa was disbursed to those boats.
Advancing the fishing industry is a major vision of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu. To achieve this vision, the Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources has now launched a special training program to generate interest in fishing among youth and bring them into the fishing sector.
The main objective of this program is to generate interest in the fishing sector among youth and bring them into work related to the sector. In addition, providing opportunities for youth to gain training and skills related to the fishing sector is also an important goal of this program, according to the ministry. The program has has given opportunities to 5 youth under 24 years old who are not registered as fishermen.
In this program launched by the Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources, participants will receive technical information about fishing as well as practical opportunities to engage in fishing activities. As such, participants will receive training and skills in practical fishing from some of the most skilled skippers in the Maldives on one of the most notable boats engaged in pole-and-line tuna fishing.
