Due to increased unrest in Middle Eastern countries, Wizz Air has suspended its flights to Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The Middle East has been plunged into turmoil by the Jews. Since October 2023, they have been carrying out a genocide against the people of Gaza in Palestine, while Jewish forces have also been targeting terrorist attacks on Lebanon, Yemen, and Syria. In June, the Jews also launched aggressive attacks on Iran. Wizz Air stated that with the heating up of the Middle Eastern scene, the financial benefits from trips to countries in that region have decreased. And, they said that flights to Abu Dhabi have been suspended for this reason. The company said that they have decided to prioritize expanding flights to Eastern European countries.
Wizz Air is a budget or low-cost airline registered in Hungary. The company established a base in Abu Dhabi and expanded its services to the Middle East six years ago. And expanding trips to other areas of the Middle East was a goal of the company. However, Wizz Air said that they have been forced to abandon those dreams. The reason for this is that over the past two years, the Middle Eastern scene has heated up, with some countries closing their airspace and hindering air travel. Along with this, the company said that the demand for air travel has also been affected. They also said that the Middle Eastern scene is not expected to cool down in the coming days, and that there is no hope of gaining financial benefits by providing air travel services to that region.
Wizz Air’s CEO József Váradi said that the company’s main focus at the moment is to expand flights to Central and Eastern European countries. Wizz Air is a competitor to Ryanair, Europe’s largest airline. “We have reduced investment in that market over the past years. Now we will have the opportunity to expand services targeting that market. It’s a market where financial profits are certain,” he said. With Wizz Air’s announcement of suspending flights to Abu Dhabi, the company’s share price rose by 2.6% on the London stock market. However, over the past two years, the company’s share price has fallen by 62%. This was due to issues with the engines used in the company’s aircraft. Wizz Air was forced to ground or temporarily remove some of its aircraft from service due to problems with the Pratt & Whitney GTF engines they use.
Wizz Air has placed orders for an additional 280 Airbus aircraft over the next five years. Váradi said that these aircraft will be used to expand services to Central and Eastern European countries. Currently, two-thirds of the company’s services are dedicated to that region. And 30% is dedicated to flights to the UK, Italy, and Austria. The company’s share of flights to Abu Dhabi is only 5%.
