Economic Development and Trade Minister Mohamed Saeed has stated that the corruption in Fenaka Corporation is just a small portion of the corruption that took place during the MDP government, and that corrupt practices have completely entangled the entire system. The Minister made these remarks while speaking on PSM’s “Raajje Miadu” program regarding the major embezzlement case at Fenaka Corporation, as revealed by the Auditor General’s Office. The embezzlement of billions of rufiyaa through Fenaka was confirmed by the special audit report of the company the company released by the Auditor General’s Office. The audit report has revealed that this embezzlement was carried out with the clear knowledge of the government at the time, without taking any action. The report also shows that some individuals within the government benefited from this scheme.

Regarding this issue, Economic Development and Trade Minister Mohamed Saeed said that the thefts that were occurring within the MDP government were done with the knowledge of the leaders, and that despite strongly speaking against such matters during election periods when seeking power, once in office, corruption cases are not investigated. Minister Saeed stated that during the previous MDP government, even though the Fenaka corruption case surfaced within President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s administration, it was not investigated. The Minister also said that it is evident that those in power at the time encouraged such actions.

“The ACC President, whose name was submitted and approved by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, had informed President Solih in black and white about the theft happening in Fenaka. He urged not to let it go. President Solih cannot deny this today. Similarly, when the Deputy Managing Director informed through a letter, he was transferred to the President’s Office. This shows that these things happened with President Solih’s knowledge as well,” said the Economic Minister.
