The 4,500-metric ton cold storage facility, developed under the Felivaru expansion project, is scheduled to become operational by June this year, according to Farhath Shaheer, the Managing Director of MIFCO.

Contracted to India’s Rinac, the project includes the establishment of a 200-ton brine freezing system and an 80-ton Refrigerated Seawater (RSW) system, alongside the construction of a new cannery. Once the project is completed, Felivaru’s daily fish processing capacity will rise to 280 tons. This enhancement is expected to alleviate the challenges faced by northern fishermen, eliminating the need for long journeys to Kooddoo to weigh their catch and significantly reducing fuel expenditures.

This USD 22 million initiative is a key project conducted under the Line of Credit provided by the Exim Bank of India.
