
Hussain Fahmy, Managing Director of STELCO, said last night that all necessary measures will be taken to prevent recurrence of incidents like the power outage that affected the whole of Male’ and Hulhumale’. Yesterday, power was restored to most of Male’ and Hulhumale’ after sunset, following an outage that began around 12:45 pm. In a post on X related to the incident, Fahmy said that the issue with the Greater Male’ Interconnection Grid has now been resolved and power service has been restored to Male’ and Hulhumale’. Fahmy has thanked STELCO employees and others who assisted in restoring power in various ways.
“I assure you that this company will take all necessary measures to prevent such an incident from recurring,” Fahmy said in his post on X.
Fahmy has also apologized for the inconvenience caused to the public by the five-hour power outage. Fahmy said that the cause of the blackout will be identified and related information will be made public later. STELCO said at sunset that power had been restored to different areas and the whole of Male’, with only one transformer in Hulhumale’ Phase 1 remaining to be energized.
Yesterday’s power outage in the Male’ area caused major disruptions, halting work at offices, shops, cafes and other establishments. STELCO said the cause of the power cut has not yet been determined. However, they said it will be investigated after resolving the power issue. President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has also ordered that the cause of the power outage in the Male’ area be treated as a serious matter.”
