President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has stated that the government has decided to expand Agronet company without dissolving it, and that making agriculture a well-run and expanded industry in the Maldives is the main policy.

Speaking at a meeting with the people of Ga. Nilandhoo, the President said that Agronet has not been dissolved, but has been changed to a subsidiary company of Maldives Industrial Development Free Zone Public Limited, which is run by S Development Free Zone Public Limited, which is run by STO. “We are not dissolving the Agronet company. Some people are talking about this in a way that is not true. Agronet will remain as a company we established with STO. We have changed it to a subsidiary company of Maldives Industrial Development Free Zone Public Limited, which is a 100% government-owned company,” he said.

The President said that Agronet will continue to exist and that they have decided to expand it further to strengthen the way the company operates. Therefore, expanding agriculture in the Maldives through Agronet or that system is a very important policy of this government, the President said. “Agriculture is an area that receives a lot of attention when it comes to diversifying the Maldivian economy. So our thinking is to improve it more than it is now,” the President said.

The President said that the government has started special efforts to produce food items needed in the Maldives in various parts of the country. He also said that opportunities are being given for investments in this area and that work is being done vigorously to establish such investments in the Maldives. “So there is happiness for farmers in the Maldives. Our main policy is to improve the agricultural industry many times better than it is today and make agriculture a very well-run and expanded industry in the Maldives,” the President said.

In his speech, he highlighted that a special ministry for agriculture was established for this reason. “So I want to give that assurance to the farmers of this island, and I give that assurance to those working in the agricultural sector of the Maldives,” the President said.

The President said that arranging for farmers to sell their products is something that people want, and that finding a good solution through the Agronet mechanism or otherwise before the month of Ramadan is something that people really want. The President’s speech also highlighted that a permanent solution is needed for this issue in general.
