In alignment with the presidential pledge delivered by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu in his Presidential Address, three pivotal services have been officially inaugurated at the Hithadhoo Commercial Port in Addu City. These include a Duty-Free Zone for foodstuffs and essential commodities, a Bonded Warehouse, and a Bulk Cargo Facility. This strategic development is designed to provide significant financial relief to entrepreneurs by easing the process of goods importation and enhancing their business cash flow.

The introduction of the Bulk Cargo Facility, in particular, is expected to reduce the cost of construction materials, thereby accelerating development projects across the southern atolls. Furthermore, by facilitating the direct supply of goods to southern resorts from Addu City, this initiative reduces dependency on Male’ and serves as a major boost to the regional economy. This milestone marks a significant step towards developing Addu City as the nation’s second economic pillar and strengthening the overall economic landscape of the southern region.
