The jersey worn by England’s goalkeeper Peter Shilton in the match where Argentina’s former captain and one of the greatest players the world has ever seen, Diego Maradona, scored a controversial goal with his hand, has been decided to be sold at auction. The goal scored by Maradona’s hand in the 1986 World Cup was accepted by the referee. Years later, Maradona himself revealed the story of this deceitful hand goal. This goal has been famously nicknamed the “Hand of God.”

Due to this goal, this match also stands as one of the most memorable played in the history of the World Cup. It is estimated that Shilton’s jersey from this match will be sold for 300,000 pounds at the auction. Maradona’s number 10 jersey, worn in the same match, was auctioned in 2022 and sold for 7.1 million pounds.

The official auction for Shilton’s jersey will be held next year in July. This period coincides with the time when the FIFA World Cup football tournament will also be hosted in America. The auction organizers decided to hold this event in July, specifically to align with the World Cup, anticipating that it might significantly increase the bidding price.
