Emergency Preparedness Exercise at VIA to be Held After 3 Years

Velana International Airport (VIA) is preparing to hold a special exercise next month to prepare for potential emergencies.

The Airport Full-Scale Emergency Exercise (AFEX) is a mandatory activity to ensure that safety measures at VIA are implemented in accordance with the standards set by the Maldives Civil Aviation Authority (MCAA) and the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

MACL (Maldives Airports Company Limited) stated that this regularly held exercise at VIA is the largest event in the Maldivian aviation sector. They said that preparations are underway to hold this exercise on the 8th of next month.

The purpose of this exercise is to test VIA’s Emergency Plan and Standard Operating Procedures, as well as the emergency plans of participating airlines, in the event of a potential emergency situation.

The last Airport Full-Scale Emergency Exercise (AFEX) at VIA was held in 2022. That year, over 400 participants from 30 different organizations, including various airport departments and health service providers, took part in the exercise.
