The President of the Elections Commission, Mohamed Zahid, has assured that the fire incident at “Prime Godown” last night will not disrupt the three elections scheduled for April 4th. He made this statement in an interview with PSM News, following concerns raised as the fire occurred near the building housing the Election Centre.
The Commission’s President confirmed that all documents and materials kept at the Election Centre remain secure. While the process of candidates and their representatives signing the voters’ list is currently suspended, he noted that this work will resume tomorrow at the Social Centre. Furthermore, Mohamed Zahid stated that all election-related operations will be conducted from the Social Centre until the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) grants clearance to re-enter and resume work at the previous Election Centre building.
