Minister of Homeland Security and Technology, Ali Ihusaan, has announced that the state-of-the-art E-gate services installed at the new terminal of Velana International Airport will be accessible to tourists starting April 1st. This initiative aims to streamline border control procedures, significantly reducing wait times and enhancing the overall travel experience.

While a total of 20 gates are scheduled to be installed across both arrival and departure areas, the service is currently being utilized by Maldivian citizens. Efforts are currently underway to complete the software installation for this advanced system, which integrates facial recognition technology. The primary objective is to ensure a seamless and efficient border-crossing process for all tourists visiting the Maldives.
