Goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma has decided to leave Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), stating that he is deeply disappointed with how the French club has treated him. In a message released on Instagram, he expressed his extreme disappointment and how hurt he was by the way he was treated. Although he had one year left on his contract, PSG has already excluded Donnarumma from the squad for their upcoming UEFA Super Cup final, effectively giving him the opportunity to transfer to a club of his choice.
The issue between Donnarumma and PSG arose during contract renewal negotiations. He is one of the highest-paid players at the club. However, PSG now wants Donnarumma, who is 26 years old, to agree to the club’s policies before moving forward. The first step is for Donnarumma to agree to the club’s new salary structure. He has only one year left on his current contract. The talks between the two parties have been unsuccessful so far because Donnarumma has not agreed to the new salary structure, which would significantly reduce his current salary.
Donnarumma was a key contributor to PSG’s historic success in the past season. He played a crucial role in winning the French Cup, French League, and for the first time, the UEFA Champions League. Following this, he also helped the team reach the FIFA Club World Cup final. However, due to the unresolved contract issues, the club has started to bring in new goalkeepers for the starting eleven. They have signed goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier from Lille for $40 million. Additionally, they are working on bringing in other goalkeepers as well.
Clubs interested in Donnarumma include teams from his home country Italy and England. While Inter Milan from Italy showed interest, they haven’t made a bid yet. In England, both Manchester clubs are involved. Manchester United has already held discussions with PSG about purchasing him. However, talks have stalled due to the player’s high salary demands and PSG’s asking price, which is over 50 million euros.
