The President of the Republic, Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, received a courtesy call from the Right Honorable David Lammy MP, Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs (Foreign Secretary) of the United Kingdom. The main focus of today’s meeting was to discuss ways to sustainably strengthen and enhance the relationship between the Maldives and the United Kingdom.
Additionally, the meeting included discussions on increasing cooperation in areas such as the fisheries sector, climate change adaptation efforts, renewable energy expansion, and enhancing educational and scholarship opportunities. The two officials also talked about strengthening ties in other important sectors. The meeting concluded with assurances of continued efforts to further strengthen the close relationship between the Maldives and the United Kingdom.
Diplomatic relations between the Maldives and the United Kingdom were established on July 26, 1965.
