
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has decided to resolve the difficulties faced by Thalassemia children directly under his supervision. Some parties have protested due to dissatisfaction with the services of the Thalassemia Center in Male’. Less than 24 hours after the protest, he visited the Thalassemia Center and the center being developed in Hulhumale’, closely examining the work and the condition of the children, and listening to complaints.
In an interview released afterwards by the President’s Office, President Muizzu said that he has given very important instructions and ways to proceed to strengthen the work of the Thalassemia Center. The President also said that he has paved the way for these things to be done.

“We have consulted and outlined ways to immediately find solutions to the difficulties faced by Thalassemia patients. It has been reported that the center has been operating without a Director General since 2017. I have instructed for this to be resolved immediately,” the President said.
Some decisions made to strengthen the work of the Thalassemia Center:
1. Increasing the number of required nurses
2. Acquiring various equipment
3. Appointing a senior physician
4. Obtaining necessary resources and staff for the laboratory
5. Extending working hours and increasing human resources

The President said that the Finance Minister was also involved in that meeting, and arrangements have been made to ensure there will be no financial constraints for the work of the Thalassemia Center. The President also said that the procedures and deadlines for moving forward have been set today.
“So, we have facilitated waysSo, we have facilitated ways to move forward in terms of resources and personnel. We were unaware that the situation had reached this point, with no progress being made at the center. Various government parties have met with the Thalassemia Center, but no practical changes were implemented. Therefore, we have decided to make some internal changes,” the President said.
The President said that changes will be made in the coming days and that they have decided to make necessary improvements to the services provided at the Thalassemia Center in Male’ for as long as it operates there. He also mentioned that some decisions have been made today regarding the work on the building under construction in Hulhumale’. The President noted that it is a spacious facility and that many more resources will be added when they relocate there.
Acknowledging the need for transportation to the new location, the President said that a special bus stop will be arranged there. Assuring that no issue will remain unresolved due to financial constraints, the President stated that the work to solve the difficulties faced by Thalassemia children in the coming days will proceed directly under his supervision.
