“Dhivehi Raajje” in Thaana Script on Maldivian Aircraft

The national airline, Maldivian, has announced that they have decided to display “Dhivehi Raajje” in Thaana script on the exterior of their aircraft, coinciding with the 60th Independence Day of the Maldives, and have already begun this work. The change in Maldivian’s livery will include the national flag along with “Dhivehi Raajje” in Thaana script on the exterior of the aircraft. This change has already been implemented on the airline’s wide-body aircraft. This aircraft, which was the first to receive service from the new terminal at Velana Airport, has already undergone this modification. Maldivian stated that this change symbolizes the Dhivehi language, heritage, and national pride.

Maldivian said that this change will be visible on all of their aircraft. They added that this change demonstrates the connection between Maldivian identity and the national airline. As the country celebrates 60 years of independence this year, the national airline stated that this change symbolizes the Maldivian independence, sovereignty, and unity.

Regarding the changes to Maldivian’s aircraft livery, Ali Saleem, Deputy Managing Director of Island Aviation Services, which operates the airline, said that as the national airline, it is an honor to use the word “Dhivehi Raajje” on their flights. Noting that this year is also important for the national airline, Saleem said that when Maldivian aircraft fly, people will see the attention the national airline gives to preserving Maldivian culture and identity.

The national airline stated that the changes to Maldivian’s livery will soon be visible on all aircraft. Maldivian’s fleet consists of 25 aircraft. This includes wide-body Airbus A330, narrow-body Airbus A320 aircraft, 5 ATR aircraft, 9 Dash 8 aircraft, and 11 Dash 6 Twin Otter aircraft.
