Defense Minister Mohamed Ghassan Maumoon has urged the military to prioritize the Maldivian nation over themselves.

The Minister made this appeal while speaking at the ceremony to commission and hand over the vessel “Dharumavantha,” gifted by Turkey to the Maldives National Defence Force.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Defense Minister said that since taking office, the President’s main goal has always been to maintain the country’s independence and sovereignty. He added that even today, the President continues to make many important decisions prioritizing the national interest and benefiting the country.

The Minister stated that this vessel is the largest military vessel deployed in the history of the Maldives’ naval service. With this vessel, he said, another step has been taken towards achieving this goal.

“This is the largest vessel the Maldivian military has received in Maldivian history. It provides the capability to travel long distances and operate with heavy weapons. This is the result of the President’s continuous efforts to enhance military capabilities. On behalf of the Maldivian military, I thank the President for this,” said Defense Minister Ghassan Maumoon.

The Minister said this would be a service that will work to defend the nation’s independence and maintain the wealth of Maldivian seas and the nation.

The Minister recalled that when the naval force was established in 1980, the National Defense Force was seen working with limited resources.

In his speech, the Defense Minister appealed to the military to prioritize the nation over themselves. He also assured the public that the military would always remain committed to protecting the country’s sovereignty and independence.

Defense Minister Ghassan Maumoon’s speech also commemorated those who served in the military for the Maldivian seas and nation, acknowledging and thanking them for their national service in various capacities.
