TC Sports Club’s head coach, Mohamed Athif (Aathee), has expressed significant concerns regarding the current organization of the Dhivehi Premier League qualifying playoffs. He highlighted a major disparity in the regulations, noting that while regional teams are permitted to revise their squad lists, top-flight league teams are denied this opportunity, which he described as a clear injustice.
Furthermore, Athif pointed out that the prolonged intervals in the league schedule and the lack of definitive dates for the playoff matches have created substantial obstacles in team preparation. He appealed for a more synchronized approach to concluding competitions and called for the standardization of rules to ensure a level playing field for Premier League clubs. Under the Football Association of Maldives’ (FAM) new format, the bottom two teams from the league will compete in the playoffs alongside the champions from four regional zones.
