
Minister of Cities, Local Government, and Public Works, Adam Shareef Umar, has emphasized the vital importance of shaping infrastructure development in a manner that safeguards the unique identity and distinctive characteristics of Maldivian islands.
Speaking as the Chief Guest at the “Magey Dharavandhoo Award 2025” ceremony, the Minister highlighted that while bringing development through the decentralization system, utmost priority must be given to protecting the historical and natural environment of each island. He further noted that executing development projects in harmony with the local environment is the most essential path to sustaining an island’s unique character.
In addition, Minister Adam Shareef Umar stated that the decentralization system can only be fully realized in its true sense when councils and citizens collaborate to advance development efforts in an eco-friendly and sustainable manner.
