In accordance with President Dr. Muizzu’s pledge to address fertility challenges, arrangements have been finalized to provide IVF treatments free of charge under the national social health insurance scheme, Aasandha. While this treatment previously required significant financial expenditure abroad, it is now being facilitated locally through the National Fertility Center established at Dharumavantha Hospital. Notably, this initiative has already celebrated its first success with the birth of the Maldives’ first baby conceived through the government-sponsored IVF program. This milestone represents a significant alleviation of the financial and emotional burdens faced by Maldivian families, while marking a historic advancement in the nation’s healthcare sector.
