The Children’s Ombudsperson’s Office (COO) has condemned the broadcasting and circulation of a video showing a discussion that could compromise a child’s dignity. The office stated that they are closely monitoring the situation. In a press release, the Children’s Ombudsperson’s Office said that a video showing a discussion that could compromise a child’s dignity was broadcast and circulated on the 13th of this month during a series of gatherings organized by the Maldivian Democratic Party.

The statement noted that under the Constitution of the Maldives, children are entitled to special assistance and protection from family, community family, community, and the state. While there are policies and laws in place to protect children, and every person has the right to have their name and reputation protected, the Children’s Ombudsperson’s Office condemned the act of speaking in a way that could compromise a child’s dignity during a gathering organized by a registered political party in the Maldives, and the broadcasting of this footage and audio by a registered media outlet in the Maldives.

It was highlighted that such actions against children can diminish their self-confidence and cause significant psychological harm. Therefore, all parties have been urged to refrain from such actions that could compromise children’s dignity and interests.
