Minister of Homeland Security and Technology, Ali Ihusaan, has announced that container scanners will be procured and brought into operation within this year as part of the efforts to prevent drug smuggling into the country. The Minister highlighted that the President’s decision to consolidate all relevant agencies under a single ministry is a strategic move aimed at addressing the drug crisis more effectively.

According to the Minister, while all air cargo is currently undergoing scanning, drugs valued at approximately MVR 2.3 billion have been seized over the past two years. In addition to these measures, the Minister stated that “Operation Alimagu” will be expanded nationwide to dismantle drug trafficking networks. Furthermore, to reduce the demand for illicit substances, the government plans to establish frameworks this year that will allow private parties to provide rehabilitation and treatment services.
