Consultations between Sri Lanka and Maldives on ensuring maritime security

The Minister of Defense, Mohamed Ghassaan Maumoon, has paid a courtesy call on the President of Sri Lanka, Anura Kumara Dissanayake, who is currently on an official visit to the Maldives. During the Defense Minister’s courtesy call on the Sri Lankan President, discussions were held regarding maritime safety and security. In this regard, consultations were held to strengthen the relationship between the two countries in this area, to further reinforce the existing frameworks, and to ensure the safety and security of the maritime regions connecting the two nations.

While discussions on maritime security between the Maldives and Sri Lanka were held, the Sri Lankan President has assured cooperation in stopping illegal fishing in Maldivian waters during meetings held as part of this visit. During the two-day visit of the Sri Lankan President, high-level consultative meetings have been held between the two countries to strengthen ties in important areas.
