President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced that the construction of a modern, international-standard netball complex is scheduled to begin in April this year.

The President shared this development during his Presidential Address at the People’s Majlis, specifying that the facility will be established in Hulhumalé.

Highlighting sports infrastructure projects planned for the year, the President detailed that the state-of-the-art multi-story netball complex will feature four additional pitches. This facility is expected to be a significant solution to the long-standing lack of resources faced by the sport in the Maldives. Furthermore, the arena will provide the Maldivian netball community with the necessary facilities for international-standard practices and high-intensity training sessions required to elevate the national team’s performance.

The establishment of this complex is also set to pave the way for the Maldives to host regional and major international tournaments.

President Muizzu emphasized that the development of facilities for netball and various other sports will be a top priority this year. In addition to the international netball complex, the President stated that projects for a futsal complex, an e-sports center, and the land reclamation required for a racing track—a long-awaited demand from the racing and drifting community—will also commence within this year.

The President further noted that ongoing projects across Malé and the atolls will be accelerated, with a goal to complete 879 projects within the next two years.
