The Commissioner General of Taxation, Hassan Zareer, has stated that work has begun on implementing the roadmap or plan developed to digitize services as part of ongoing efforts to streamline MIRA’s services. The Commissioner Commissioner General of Taxation, Hassan Zareer, said this in his address on the occasion of MIRA’s 15th anniversary. Commissioner of Taxation Hassan Zareer said that as the state tax authority completes 15 years of national service and enters its 16th year, they are working to enhance the professional competence of the institution’s staff and further strengthen administrative operations. Zareer also said that making tax-related obligations easier and further improving tax compliance is a goal.

Zareer noted that introducing an electronic invoicing system similar to those used in other developed countries, connecting taxpayers with MIRA’s systems, and making it easier to fulfill tax obligations is an important milestone in MIRA’s digital transformation roadmap. In addition, Zareer said that 97 percent of tax returns and 99 percent of payments received by MIRA are now done online. Zareer pointed out that MIRA’s revenue in 2011 was 4.56 billion rufiyaa, but this figure has increased to 28.10 billion rufiyaa in 2024. The Tax Commissioner also said that today MIRA is the institution that receives 82.5 percent of the state’s revenue.

The Commissioner said that achieving significant progress in the tax system and state revenue in a short period is a proud achievement for MIRA. He added that behind this success are the exemplary efforts of MIRA’s commissioners, senior officials, hardworking staff, and taxpayers who have been and continue to be involved in running the institution. As MIRA completes 15 years, the institution began its work on August 2, 2010. The work that started with about forty employees has expanded, and now more than 300 employees are working at MIRA. The institution operates 18 offices across different parts of the country.
