With an abundant supply of chili this Ramadan, prices in the local market have significantly decreased. The price of 100 grams of chili, which was previously at MVR 50, has now dropped to a range between MVR 20 and MVR 25. In contrast, the price of watermelon has experienced an uptick, rising from MVR 25 to MVR 35.
While the prices of leafy greens remain steady, various fruits such as apples and oranges, along with several types of vegetables, are readily available in the market. Furthermore, as part of the government’s initiatives to stabilize food prices, the State Trading Organization (STO) has facilitated the distribution of essential commodities and fruits like oranges at affordable prices throughout Malé and the administrative atolls.
