Pakistan’s captain, Salman Ali Agha, has attributed his team’s comprehensive defeat against India in the T20 cricket tournament to flawed team selection and a disappointing batting performance. Speaking after the 61-run loss at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Sri Lanka, Agha noted that losing several crucial wickets within the first few overs was a primary factor in the team’s downfall. After winning the toss, Pakistan elected to bowl first, with India subsequently posting a total of 175 runs.
“We utilized four spinners in our bowling attack, but unfortunately, it turned out to be an ‘off day’ for them. This was one of our major challenges; our tactical selection felt inconsistent at various stages of the match. Furthermore, we failed to establish a strong start in our batting innings,” Agha stated. He added that while the pitch conditions remained favorable during Pakistan’s innings, the team struggled to execute their plans effectively.
“Despite this outcome, we must now direct our efforts toward the upcoming match. Once we secure a win and progress to the second round, it will feel like a completely new tournament. Therefore, the entire team’s focus is now firmly on the next game,” Agha said.
Following their victory last night, India currently leads Group A. Pakistan remains the favorite to qualify for the semi-finals as the second team from the group, provided they secure a win against Namibia on Wednesday.
