Bank of Maldives has launched its ATM service in Maakurathu, Raa Atoll. The ATM service in Maakurathu was inaugurated by the Minister of State for Cities and Administrative Areas and Public Works, Adam Shareef Umar, at a ceremony held on the island for this purpose. The ceremony was attended by BML’s CEO Mohamed Shareef, senior bank officials, members of the island council, and parliamentary representatives of the atoll’s constituencies.
To mark the launch of the ATM service in Maakurathu, Minister Adam Shareef withdrew cash from the ATM and then handed over a symbolic ATM card to the island council. The card was received on behalf of the island council by its president. The ATM installed in Maakurathu is a self-service machine that offers 24-hour cash withdrawal and deposit services. As part of Bank of Maldives’ efforts to establish ATM services in the islands of Raa Atoll, ATM services have been launched on 9 islands in this phase. With this, ATMs will be installed on all inhabited islands of the atoll. Additionally, work will begin on establishing a BML branch in Alifushi.
Through this project, jointly carried out by Bank of Maldives and the government to provide ATM services on all inhabited islands of the Maldives, the service has so far been launched in 15 atolls.
