Under the project initiated to provide BML ATM services in all inhabited islands of the Maldives, ATM services have now been established in all islands of Lh. Atoll. The introduction of ATM services in every inhabited island is a pledge made by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu. Until now, residents of islands without ATM facilities faced significant difficulties in accessing these services, often incurring substantial costs. Consequently, their dream was to have easy access to banking services right from their home islands. President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu had previously affirmed his commitment to alleviate these hardships for the people by ensuring banking services are available within their own islands.
Accordingly, last November, Bank of Maldives, under the initiative of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, launched a special project titled “ATM Service Across the Maldives”. Lh. Atoll is the latest atoll where ATMs have been established under this project. With the commencement of ATM services in Olhuvelifushi of Lh. Atoll, BML ATM services have now been established in a total of 18 atolls, including Lh. Atoll. Currently, the only atolls where ATMs have not yet been established in all islands are L. Atoll and Addu City. The government aims to establish ATMs in these atolls this month and complete the entire project. Speaking at the ceremony to launch ATM services in Olhuvelifushi, BML CEO and Managing Director Mohamed Shareef stated that when businesses on the islands deposit money into the ATMs, and that money begins to circulate within the banking system, it benefits the residents and economy of those islands.
Mohamed Shareef stated, “When money is deposited, and it enters the banking system, even small amounts of money held by various individuals, when accumulated, will have positive effects on the economy. It starts circulating through the banking system. This will bring significant benefits.” With a banking network encompassing the entire Maldives, including 42 branches, 193 self-service banking centres, 251 ATMs across 20 atolls, and the most modern online banking services, Bank of Maldives aims to support individuals, businesses, and communities in various corners of the Maldives.
