Bidding Opened for 3 Islands for Halal Tourism and 13 Lagoons for Resort Development

The Ministry of Tourism and the Ministry of Climate Change, Environment and Energy have invited interested parties to develop three tourist resorts under the Halal Tourism model.

According to the Ministry, opportunities are now open for proponents interested in developing and operating tourist resorts under the Halal Tourism model on islands and lagoons designated for lease via competitive bidding. The deadline for bid submission is 09:00 AM on the 6th of next month.

Three specific locations have been allocated for resort development under the Halal Tourism model. These include a 200-hectare area from the Makunudhoo reef in Haa Dhaalu Atoll, L. Fonagaadhoo, and S. Dhonherah along with an adjacent 0.85-hectare islet.

An information session for those interested in bidding for these sites is scheduled to be held via Microsoft Teams at 10:00 AM on the 2nd of next month. Parties wishing to participate in this session are requested to register by emailing [email protected] before 12:00 PM on Sunday, 1st March 2026.

In addition to the Halal Tourism model, the Ministry of Tourism has also opened bidding for resort development in 13 other areas. Proponents interested in developing and operating these resorts must submit their bids by 11:00 AM on the 6th of next month.

  • HDh. Maafaru Faru 1 (200 Hectares)
  • HDh. Maafaru Faru 2 (200 Hectares)
  • HDh. Maafaru Faru 3 (200 Hectares)
  • Sh. Gonafaru 1 (200 Hectares)
  • Sh. Gonafaru 2 (200 Hectares)
  • Sh. Gonafaru 3 (200 Hectares)

A virtual information session regarding this bid will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, 2nd March 2026. Interested parties are urged to register for the session by emailing [email protected] before 12:00 PM on Sunday, 1st March 2026.
