Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has stated that it is an honor for India to be the most trusted nation by the Maldives. Prime Minister Modi made this statement in his address following official discussions between the two countries during his current visit to the Maldives. In his speech, Modi expressed gratitude for the invitation related to the Maldives’ 60th Independence Day and extended Independence Day greetings to the government and people of the Maldives.
Modi said that while this year marks 60 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Maldives and India, the connection between the two countries is much older. He stated that the Maldives is the closest among India’s neighboring countries and plays a significant role in India’s “Neighborhood First” policy and “Mahasagar” vision. Prime Minister Modi said it’s an honor for India to be the most trusted nation by the Maldives and assured that India would always be the first to provide assistance whenever the Maldives needs it. He also noted that the realization of matters discussed during President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s official visit to India last October is evidence of the close relationship between the two countries. Furthermore, he highlighted that the projects carried out in the Maldives with Indian government assistance are crucial for the Maldives’ development.
Modi announced that the Indian government has decided to provide a line of credit of 565 million dollars for various development projects in the Maldives. He also stated that the two countries will always work together for regional stability and progress. In his speech, Modi acknowledged the challenges both countries face due to climate change and emphasized India’s focus on renewable energy, promising to share India’s experience in this field with the Maldives. Prime Minister Modi concluded his speech by affirming that India will always stand with the Maldives.
