Hussain Fahmy, Managing Director of STELCO, has stated that battery-powered vehicles will reduce air pollution in Male’ and benefit public health. In a post, Fahmy said that to provide Maldivians with the opportunity to use environmentally friendly electric vehicles and to assist in implementing President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s robust environmentally friendly policies for the energy sector, an energy management system has been introduced to the Maldives, and a system for charging electric vehicles has been established.
Fahmy mentioned that work is underway to introduce Taiwan’s famous Gogoro brand’s advanced battery management system to the Maldives and make it easily accessible to the public.
“With the installation of its battery systems in various areas of Male’, opportunities will open up for businesses interested in importing motorcycles compatible with these batteries. Along with these battery systems and the established EV charging stations, it will add color to the modern dreams of electric vehicle enthusiasts and provide additional conveniences to the government’s solid efforts in establishing an environmentally friendly and sustainable system,” Fahmy said.
He also stated that arrangements are being made to bring Gogoro motorcycles to the Maldives for test rides, to generate interest in such environmentally friendly motorcycles, and to encourage the transition to them. Fahmy noted that since the energy for the Energy Management System and EV Charging Stations will be provided through environmentally friendly systems, this is an additional step towards achieving the government’s 33% target and advancing the Maldives on the path of development and civilization.
Fahmy said that Maldivians are always welcoming of such environmentally friendly changes that benefit the people. He believes this will reduce air pollution in Male’ and benefit the health of individuals living in this community.
