Barcelona’s women’s football team is a model even for male players, according to vice-captain Aitana BonmatĂ, who won the Ballon d’Or for the third consecutive time. She said this while speaking after the Ballon d’Or award ceremony held in Paris, France. “Winning this award is a great achievement. We keep improving every year. The past season was also one with very successful advancements. With each such award, we’ll be more motivated to achieve further success,” BonmatĂ said.
She stated that reaching the Champions League final four times in a row and winning two trophies is also an achievement for Barcelona. She also mentioned that winning the Spanish League title 10 times out of 14 seasons is special. Additionally, she noted that Barcelona has dominated the Spanish national women’s team for the past 10 years. In this regard, she pointed out that the majority of players in the Spain team that won the 2022 World Cup and played in the last two Euro finals were from Barcelona.

Moreover, the last five players to win the Ballon d’Or were also from Barcelona. While BonmatĂ has won it for the past three years, the two years before that, the award was won by captain Alexia Putellas. “I think this generation of Barcelona women will be a role model for young players in the future of football. Not just for female players, but for male players and the entire football community as well,” BonmatĂ said.
She expressed her hope to always remain with Barcelona. Barcelona’s president Joan Laporta said after the Ballon d’Or award ceremony that BonmatĂ is a very complete player and that this award is well-deserved for her.
