Barcelona has decided to release Polish forward Robert Lewandowski after this season. The 38-year-old forward is currently playing his third season at Barcelona. He has scored 105 goals for Barcelona in 156 matches so far. According to the contract of the forward, who transferred from Bayern Munich to Barcelona in 2022, his contract could be extended for an additional year if both parties agree. However, Barcelona decided not to activate this clause in order to bring in a talented young forward for the upcoming season.

The main reason Barcelona wanted to release Lewandowski was that his performance gradually started to decline as he aged. Additionally, it became difficult for him to maintain his previous excellent level of play. This includes the increasing number of matches he had to miss due to frequent injuries. Lewandowski, who also captains Poland, first shone at Germany’s Borussia Dortmund. After that, he truly excelled at German champions Bayern Munich. At that club, he also won the European Golden Boot twice.

Although Barcelona has decided not to renew his contract, Lewandowski has not commented on the matter so far. Clubs from America and especially Saudi Arabia are interested in signing him.
