President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced that starting next month, banks will facilitate the provision of up to $2,000 to patients traveling abroad for medical treatment through ENSAPA. In a post shared on social media, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu stated that in order to ease the process of obtaining US dollars for individuals traveling abroad for medical treatment, he has instructed relevant authorities to ensure that, similar to how Aasandha patients currently receive up to $2,000 through banks, ENSAPA patients will also be able to receive up to $2,000 from banks starting from the first day of next month.
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu further stated that relevant authorities have also been instructed to ensure that individuals traveling abroad for medical treatment at their own expense will be able to receive $1,000 through banks starting from the first day of next month. Currently, those traveling for treatment at their own expense only receive $500 through BML, which is allocated for tickets. Therefore, people traveling for treatment often have to purchase dollars at high rates. With this decision by the President, individuals traveling abroad for medical treatment will experience relief from the current difficulties in obtaining US dollars.
According to the latest statistics shared by ENSAPA, more than MVR 25.8 million was spent as aid for medical expenses in June. This includes MVR 8.1 million for overseas treatment and MVR 17.7 million for local treatment provided as aid by ENSAPA.
