
The National Meteorological Service has stated that heavy rain is expected in the next 24 hours for some islands in the central and southern Maldives. Due to the intensification of the southwest monsoon, the National Meteorological Service has also stated that bad weather will persist throughout the Maldives during the upcoming weekend. The National Meteorological Service said that there will be rain and thunderstorms in various parts of the Maldives over the next 24 hours. In the past 24 hours, F. Nilandhoo received the highest rainfall, with 77.5 millimeters recorded.
The National Meteorological Service said that winds will blow from the west and northwest at speeds between 13 and 23 miles per hour. They also mentioned that wind speeds could reach approximately 45 miles per hour in squalls. The National Meteorological Service stated that seas will be rough over the next 24 hours. They also noted that some islands may experience tidal swells during high tide periods.
The current rainy weather in the Maldives is due to the southwest monsoon. As such, the National Meteorological Service has urged the public to take safety precautions to protect themselves from potential dangers and minimize damages that may arise from heavy rain and strong winds.
