Bank of Maldives (BML) has launched ATM services in 9 islands of Raa Atoll in a single day. The “BML ATM for All Maldives” project, which aims to install ATMs in all inhabited islands, is a pledge by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu. Out of the 15 inhabited islands in R. Atoll, ATMs have now been installed in 9 islands. The ATM services in these islands were inaugurated by the Minister of State for Cities and Administrative Areas and Public Works, Adam Shareef Umar. Separate ceremonies were held on each island, attended by BML CEO Mohamed Shareef, senior bank officials, island council members, and parliament members representing the atoll. To mark the launch of the ATM services, Minister Adam Shareef withdrew cash from the ATM and handed over a symbolic ATM card to the island councils.
As part of BML’s efforts to expand banking services in R. Atoll, the foundation for a new bank branch was also laid today in R. Alifushi. The foundation stone was also laid by Minister Adam Shareef Umar.
Islands in R. Atoll where ATM services were newly launched:
- Vaadhoo
- Rasgetheemu
- Angolhitheemu
- Hulhudhuffaaru
- Maakurathu
- Innamaadhoo
- Rasmaadhoo
- Kinolhas
- Fainu
With the launch of ATM services in these islands, the service has now been initiated in 15 atolls of the Maldives, including R. Atoll. Additionally, the national bank is working on installing dollar ATMs in some tourist-populated islands. The government states that this project will empower island residents financially and eliminate the need to travel to other islands for banking services. This project, signed last November under the supervision of the Ministry of Economic Development, is a pledge of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.
BML has stated that they aim to complete this project entirely by the end of next October.
