President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has stated that he will restart the land reclamation project in K. Gulhi to solve the issue of land scarcity faced by the island’s residents, and assured that the project will not stop until the filling is complete. Speaking at a meeting with the residents of Gulhi yesterday evening, the President said that the assurance he wants to give is that he will bring real color to the hopes of the people. He added that he will end the long wait for development that the people have been hoping for, and will achieve what the people want.
“I came to give that assurance. The most important thing first is to find a solution to the issue of lack of space on the island,” the President said.
The President said that although the land reclamation project was signed very late in the term of the previous government, the project had not been started adequately. He added that the first budget to be implemented, or the budget passed by the parliament of that government, did not provide enough space to carry out the project. “As a result, we couldn’t carry out that project, which is an important project that needs to be carried out along with land reclamation and protecting it by placing rocks,” the President said.

“The assurance I give from this trip is that the MTCC team is now on the island, and their purpose is to give these two assurances. The work has now started with the construction of the bund wall, and it won’t be like before. Once the bund wall is completed and filling starts, God willing, I assure you that the project won’t stop until the filling is completed,” the President said. The President said that the project has been designed as the people want and as stated in the council meeting, and that it will not be changed. He also said that it will be carried out and completed in that manner.
The President noted that once the land scarcity issue is resolved, it will not only solve the housing problem but also provide opportunities for local tourism development. He added that there will be space for anything needed to increase the island’s income. “This is a necessary work for the development of this island,” the President said.
The President also highlighted that he will work on completing other needs of the island, including the harbor project. He added that this will also be carried out in the most beneficial way for the people and in the best way for the long term. Additionally, the President said he will resolve issues related to the education sector.
“The assurance I will give is that, God willing, the harbor issue will be resolved in the most beneficial way for the people and in the most profitable way for the economic development of this island. By the time the land reclamation project is completed, or even before that, from now on, we will solve the difficulties faced by the harbor due to the current state of the channel and breakwater. I assure you that this work will be done and resolved,” the President said.
As an additional matter, the President said he will provide solutions to the issue of lack of space in the mosque and the waste management problem.
